Agrifair is the place to be July 29 to 31, 2016

Housed in the red Pioneer Barn at Exhibition Park, the Fraser Valley Antique Farm Machinery Association has been in existence since 1977. The FVAFMA is a group of retired local farmers who maintain and operate the Pioneer Barn at Exhibition Park. These retired farmers are dedicated to preserving and restoring antique farming equipment and educating the community on the role that Agriculture and Farming has played in the development of the strong agriculture base in our community.

Members of the FVAFMA restore antique farming equipment to educate the community on the role that agriculture and farming has played in and around our community. With the Fraser Valley’s strong agriculture and farming history, tractors have been a common site in fields and on our rural roads over the years.

Their extensive collection of tractors (all restored and in running order) date back to the early 1940’s. Much of their collection; tractors, farming equipment, and tools have been donated to them by local pioneer farmers and their families. Some of the antique farming equipment has been used on local movie sets and we get numerous requests to display equipment at events throughout the lower mainland from North Vancouver to Chilliwack.

The FVAFMA is a permanent fixture at Agrifair. Every year the Pioneer Barn is open for the public to tour the barn where there is a vast collection of antique farming equipment and tools. During Agrifair, demonstrations and interactive displays of cream separating, rope making, egg grading, and threshing demonstrations always draw large crowds. This group is proud of the fact that they have one of the oldest, fully running diesel powered saw mills in BC. Several times a day during the fair, the saw mill is fired up and the public can take in demonstrations at the saw mill and be amazed as the large 5 foot circular saw blade slices full size trees into planks.

If you have never checked out the Pioneer Kitchen (inside the Pioneer Barn) you have missed the opportunity to have the absolutely best “Prize Winning” Homemade Pies fresh from the oven just like grandma used to make! Top it off with a scoop of locally made ice cream and there is nothing better! Mmmmmm Good!

When you are at the fair this year be sure to stop by and visit the red Pioneer Barn and take a step back in time to experience exactly what it was like for local farms in the early days. Check our website to see more, www.pioneercorner.com
