Rodeo Cancellation

February 12th, 2016 |    20comments

After facing the year end deficit of $51,000 for Agrifair 2015, many hard decisions have been made. The board of directors had no choice but to re-evaluate all programming. One of the toughest decisions was to not host the Rodeo component of the fair this year.

President Ernie Silveri stated: “The Professional Rodeo attraction has a budget of over $90,000. We could not in good conscience or good stewardship to the Agrifair Society move forward with that entertainment for 2016.”

VP Stephanie Nelson adds: “The directors are volunteers and must consider what is best for the longevity of the Association. Agrifair is a not for profit society. It is about sustainability, the board would like the fair to be around for another 100 years! The rodeo event is not off the table permanently; we will collect information from our attendees this summer and re-evaluate post fair.”

There is a still lots to do at the fair! We are very excited with the programming we have in store for the annual fair this summer and encourage ALL to attend.

President Silveri also stated: “If you think you’ve seen Agrifair, you’re wrong. We have taken a step back and re-evaluated what the fair means to our community. We are going back to our agriculture education and entertainment roots focusing on “Abbotsford – come see where your food comes from.”

Not only will you enjoy an exciting array of affordable family interactive entertainment but you can beat the heat too!

Some NEW confirmed attractions include:

Global FMX Professional Freestyle Motorcross
The Chariot Outlaws
Evening Outdoor Movie night
Strolling interactive entertainment
A FREE family venue featuring Science World, Mini Golf, Rock Wall Climbing, Lego, Arts & Crafts by the Creative Cube, a reading area and a new Mother’s or Father’s room with complimentary diapers and water

And don’t forget to come see where your food comes from. Abbotsford is a huge farming community! “ We are going to show guests a fun, educational and creative way to see where their food comes from” says VP Stephanie Nelson. “It is so important for our guests, both from the local community and out of town guests to understand that Abbotsford plays a huge part in the BC economy. And what a better place to do that than Agrifair? We have the Dairy Classroom and Poultry in Motion barn here, not to mention all the 4-H Clubs. Where else can you go to see a cow being milked, baby chicks, a horse being shoed or a sheep being sheered – all in one place?

Get ready Abbotsford and beyond…….Agrifair is the best country fair on earth!!!!
